Still some questions? We've got answers.

Who is a good fit for your services?

Our favorite ongoing relationship is one where we can walk this path together. You are in your 30s or 40s and feel you do not have the time or direction to make things happen.

You have big dreams for how you want to support your family. You want to enjoy your time but your current work situation has you on the hamster wheel without the time to dedicate to your finances.

You want to invest your time, skills and energy to create a life on your terms. You don’t need all the money in the world to retire and you are happy to reconsider cash flow if it means you can get to financial freedom faster. You understand you can find any answer you need using the internet, but you also know that you don’t know everything. You are ready for an expert to help you craft the path forward and free up your time for things you really enjoy.

You feel the luck and hard work that went into making the opportunity you have and you are thankful to be where you are. You want to make the most of it and make a broader impact on your family, community, and maybe even the world 🙂

What makes SeedSafe different?

We have the expertise in tax and financial planning and we understand that something that doesn’t *feel* right means you won’t do it. Our goal in life is to empower you with the knowledge of trade offs and pros/cons so you can decide what makes most sense for your family.

We think of it as “I know I should eat broccoli and workout every day, but that cookie and Netflix look so good!” It’s not about knowing, it’s about feeling like the path forward is doable…and exciting!

We work with you to streamline finances, and dive deep when needed, to ensure you get to spend your time on what you care about most. We will implement an investment strategy, create a tax plan for your stock options, and wrap it up with a tax projection to make sure there are no surprises. Then, we keep talking through big money decisions and questions that pop up in your financial journey.

When is the best time to work with SeedSafe?

When you are ready to make things happen. Coming to SeedSafe with an ‘I should be doing this but I just don’t want to right now’ attitude means you will not see success in working together. Financial planning is about peeling back onion layers, staying curious, and looking at trade offs in life.

We ask the same questions through our process. We believe the more time and energy you put into the process, the more you can visualize what you want. That in and of itself is so powerful – you are moving toward your vision and that means the financial steps that support your vision will be easier to enact!

What states do you primarily work in?

Due to the nature of the tech industry, you can finally find us with some involvement in the top tier and second tier tech hubs: San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Austin, Denver, New York City, etc. The majority of our clients are in Washington, California, and Texas.

Do you prepare tax returns?

Yes, we do prepare taxes for ongoing care clients (optional at an additional fee). We believe it’s important for our tax planning to match the tax return so you know nothing was missed in the process.

Sadly, tax preparation is still a mostly transactional process for tax prep firms and we don’t want that for SeedSafe. We do not do it for everyone. We only do this for our ongoing care clients who we believe will see the best value from this integration.

What does it feel like to work with SeedSafe Financial?

In the Initial Plan
At first, it feels like taking all the balls you are juggling in the air (including ones you forgot about) and creating a known place for each one. We dive deep, peel back the onion layers, do a bunch of data gathering and name what it is you want in your life and how you can get there. This is clarity.

Then, we discuss the trade-offs in some of the bigger things you have on your mind: How much can I travel? How much do I need to make long term? What size house is best for me? How does this affect when I can choose to opt out of the traditional workforce? This is empowerment to make choices. You are the final decision maker.

Finally, we set a course to streamline your finances. We balance ease with return on investment emotionally and financially. Let’s make sure your finances are working for you…and not the other way around.

In Ongoing Care
We take what we know needs to be done and decide on priorities. Then, as life changes we make course corrections. Job change? Family change? Other change? No problem, we are here as your thinking partner to share our knowledge and help you consider what you are going through.

For a job change this usually starts with the offer negotiation and then moves to 401(k)/benefits elections. Once you hit your stock compensation cliff, we start to talk about decisions for the stock and/or options.

For a family change, we may talk about pros and cons in what changes are better for now or to wait it out a few years. A spouse may decide to go part time or you may want to understand what happens to cash flow if you hire a nanny vs go the daycare route. We will dive into cash flow and college savings to make sure you feel ready for this next adventure in life.

For other changes, you may be going through an IPO or had a divorce and trying to figure out who you are at this entirely different stage in your life. We will help you stay the course financially while seeing what freedom you can give yourself at this moment.

Life is never constant. It is always changing and we are always learning. We stay curious with our clients and serve them where they need that helping hand.

How do I know I will get the value out of the fee?

Value is a relative term for each of us. What I value may not be what you value – so it starts with assessing your current situation and what you think would move the needle for you.

Some of our clients come to us with $100Ks in potential AMT bills and others come to us with a potential $6,000+ underpayment penalty from California. The ways we manage the tax process brings immense value to our clients who are grappling with these big hairy decisions.

For others, the FOMO in the housing market and our steady hand to make sure they truly love the house they are willing to bet the farm on keeps them from regret. Or as a push that they can buy their forever home even if a partner decides to exit the workforce for a sabbatical.

We hope for each of our clients to have that “Ah ha!” moment with us. If you are looking for a second opinion that your plan is ‘good enough’ through your DIY efforts, you may not value what we are bringing to the table.

How are your fees calculated?

We believe fees should be reflective of the hours worked and expertise provided. We price our services based on expected time involved and we do a review every year or two of ongoing care fees to ensure fees are in line with the charges.

This means that if you are using less time than expected, then we will reduce your fee. If you suddenly find yourself going through an IPO, then your fee may increase. The fee is meant to be fluid with the different stages of life you find yourself in.

No two individuals in life are the same and so neither is our fee.

Do you work with non-US citizens or dual citizens?

Yes! Our founder spent time in Europe and is a dual citizen. This is a puzzle we love to come at 🙂

We are well versed in reporting of foreign income for tax purposes, the USA consequences of different global investments, etc.
